Instruments that make sound from breath alone, gathered from the world's high and empty places. The Chinese xiao. The Japanese shakuhachi. The moseño and pinkillo from the Bolivian altiplano, four thousand metres up. Different continents, same conditions: thin air, hard ground, distance in every direction.
He plays them himself, recorded at Vasa Studios one take at a time.

The name
Every morning, 4am, driving out into the dark before the sky changed. Then down into the mines. Nothing in any direction — no city, no noise, no version of home. That kind of absence does something to you. It's where the music started.
